NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. One month, 50,000 words, caffeine, smidges of insanity, and absolute fun rolled into one.

2004 - NaNo Journal

1 November 2004 [5896 words, 6 dares]
*shakes head ruefully* There must be some sort of conspiracy going on...the day NaNo starts, the teachers decide to pile on the work. I'm willing to wager if I counted all the words I wrote for essays today, I'd go over the 10K mark. But alas I'm stuck at 5896 and I'm beat for the night. Time to retire into bed with my APUSH text. I'll likely format the story better tomorrow morning and mention which 6 dares I've thrown in there. *g* Oh warning in advance for language and personification of God. I didn't intend to...that's just how it got written. It'll be edited in March.

2 November 2004 [8480 words, 11 dares]
I wrote today while listening to CNN political commentary. Let's just say eleven days to find out about Ohio? Man. I'm sorely disappointed; I'd hoped Kerry's lead would be greater. Meh.

5 November 2004 [12337 words, 11 dares]
After the election completely ruined my word count by prompting me to write essays and forum posts rather than general silliness, I'm struggling to get my word count where it has to be. Perhaps in the next chapter, I'll find some way to insert all the political ramblings and rants I've made over the past few days. And I'll definitely have to work on getting a Dares list up.

6 November 2004 [15121 words, 14 dares]
Following rather dismal word count totals over the past few days, I've decided to casually slip in other things I've written during the month of November during times when I really should have been working on the novel. *grins* I tried to insert those pieces in a way that fits with the novel, but if I didn't wholly succeed, so be it. I will await my fate as the guilt monkeys of NaNo descend on me in all their feral fury.

10 November 2004 [21170 words, 16 dares]
After falling miserably behind on word count, I decided to activate the 6K jetpack, as outlined in No Plot, No Problem, a few weeks early. What a day it's been! My fingers are cramping, but I figure after I finish this post, I'll have to jump back in and start Ch. 6. Just looking at my schedule for next week makes me wince. I definitely want to build up my word count cushion while I still have some free time to write.

19 November 2004 [29528 words, 24 dares]
Spent most of the day playing catch up. I have never been so far behind in NaNo before. But less complaining, more writing. *g* After formatting this chapter, I'll definitely be trying to push over the 31K mark so I can be back on schedule. Oh and just a note: I have yet to compile a list of the dares, but the reason why chapters begin with such seemingly random and often anachronistic words is because I'm taking on the dare stating that the first word of a chapter must begin with the most recent word posted to the Word Association thread.

Also the usernames of the top three posters of NaNoWriMo are integrated into this chapter. I mean no offense to the three people. I invoke the "it was a dare" defense again. :)

30 November 2004 [46364 words, 31 dares]
Making a v. desperate last lunge to finish this thing on time. But now a bit too tired to really write anything else. Including an incredibly thoughtful reflection on the day of writing. Hence short and choppy sentences. But I will say things got screwed b/c stupid me replaced every instance of "God" with "Holy Father". Resulted in some weird words. Like "Holy Fatheresses". Fix all later. G'nights. ^_^
